Ticket sale started for European Individual Ice Speedway Championship and Sanok Mayor’s Cup

On February 19th at 12:45 in Sanok, will take place the first of the two final tournaments of the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship. The second one is planned exactly one month later in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. FIM Europe, the Polish Motor Association and Speedwayevents.pl invite all of You to the competition. The sale of tickets for the event in Sanok is just starting, where we will have a double dose of sports emotions. On Sunday, February 20th, there will be an individual friendly tournament – Sanok Mayor’s Cup.

Ice Speedway returns to Sanok after eight years of break. At the “Blonie” track, competitions of the highest rank in this sport discipline have already taken place. It was there, in 2008, that the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship were organized for the first time in Poland, which also went down in history because it was the only time when a competitor from outside Russia triumphed. The Austrian representative Franz Zorn won then. Sanok also hosted the World Team Championship and several friendly Sanok Cup tournaments.

Two tournaments

The medalists of the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship will be selected in 2022 on the basis of points scored on the track in both tournaments – in Sanok and Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Their formula will remain unchanged compared to recent years. It provides for 20 races in the main phase, after which the two most successful competitors will immediately find a place in the final heat.

Fight for the remaining two will take place in the play-off heat, to which the riders from places 3-6 after the main stage will compete. The amount of the points won in two tournaments will determine the final classification and this year’s medalists. The defender of the championship title, won in December at the Arena Lodowa track in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, is Russian Nikita Bogdanov. Honorary patronage over both of this year’s final tournaments in Poland was assumed by MEP Ryszard Czarnecki.

This year, in addition to the first edition of the competition for medals of the European Championship, there will also be a friendly competition at the “Błonie” track. On Sunday, February 20, also at 12.45, the competition in the individual tournament for the Sanok Mayor’s Cup will begin. 12 players will take part in it. There are 12 races of the main phase ahead of them, after which the top eight will reach the semi-finals. Thereafter, the two best runners from each heat of this phase of the tournament will enter the grand finale, the results of which will ultimately determine the order of the top four.
