Representatives of eight countries will compete in Sanok

The European Individual Ice Speedway Championship medals will be contested in Sanok on February 24 and 25. At the “Blonie” track, the start of the first race is scheduled for both days at 2 p.m. FIM Europe has received applications for participation in the event from 8 national federations.

For the second time in a row, the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship medals will be handed out in Sanok. The competition will again be held in the classic two-day formula – the order will be determined by the total amount of points won during the competition on Saturday and Sunday at the “Błonie” track. A year ago the championship title was won by an Austrian – Franz Zorn, who outstripped in the general classification Luca Bauer, representing Italy, and Jimmy Olsen (Sweden).

There is still some time left until the announcement of the names of this year’s participants, but the distribution of the 18 places (including reserve players) for each federation is already known. Representatives of eight countries will present themselves in Sanok.

Distribution of places

As many as four federations were given the opportunity to enter three players each. Two of them, the Czech and Austrian, will be allowed to enter two players in the tournament and one reserve each. The Germans and Swedes, on the other hand, will each have three full-fledged representatives in the competition. Finland and Sweden each got two spots, while Poland and Italy each got one.

This year’s competition

European Individual Ice Speedway Championship will be held in Poland for the fifth time in a row. Our country will traditionally be represented by Michal Knapp, who was thirteenth overall in 2020, twelfth a year later, then eleventh, and last year, mainly due to equipment problems, placed eighteenth. Now he will be looking to clearly improve.

The formula for the competition remains unchanged. Each day provides for 20 races each in the main phase, after which the two most successful riders will find a place immediately in the final race. The fight for the remaining two will take place in a barrage, which will be contested by speedway riders from places 3-6 after the main phase. Let us emphasize once again that the sum of points won in the two tournaments will determine the final classification, and thus this year’s medalists.
