The name of a representative of the Italian federation appeared on the list of entries for the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship. Luca Bauer, born in Germany, will be the Italian representative during the competition in Tomaszów Mazowiecki (December 13th at 4.30 PM in the Arena Lodowa). PKN Orlen is a main sponsor of the event.
Last year, his father Gunther Bauer, one of the greatest ice speedway legends and the best German rider in the history, ended his career at the Inzelll track. In the 2003 season, he became the runner-up in the world. The year before he won – as the first player from outside Russia – the Grand Prix tournament. He also has a World Team Championship medal. And of course has won the championship titles in his own country – eight times.
Family roots meant that Bauer junior on ice variation of speedway was doomed. A motorcycle rider, born in Prien am Chemsee, sat down on bike for the first time at the age of three.
– Due to my father’s career, this sport has always accompanied me. I started training quickly and I liked it. Ice speedway is my occupation in winter. In the summer time i normally work. I still have a lot of fun from riding. It turns me on – says Luca Bauer, who will ride in Tomaszów Mazowiecki with an Italian license.
– I had some problems with my native federation, hence my ride for Italy. What am I hoping for in Tomaszów Mazowiecki? At least for the bronze medal, just like last year at the Ufa track – added the 22-year-old at the end.
