The Swedish Motorcycle Federation (SVEMO) has announced the names of the riders who will perform at the Texom European Individual Ice Speedway Championship in Sanok. On February 24 and 25, 2024, Jimmy Olsen, Jimmy Hörnell and Joakim Söderström will perform at the “Blonie” ice track in Sanok. Tickets are available for sale online.
The outstanding In recent years he has stood twice on the podium of the Individual European Championships, winning two bronze medals. The beginning of the season for the Swede has been very intense, but at the same time full of success. Olsen raced in the Swedish Super League at the beginning of the year. He also gained promotion to the World Championships, and won 3rd place at the Swedish Individual Championships. In Sanok, his goal will be gold.
– I’m going to Sanok to fight for the gold medal. I remember my last performance in Poland well. I didn’t get over my mistakes and had to fight until the end to get on the podium. However, I was not surprised by my result. This year the appetite is obviously bigger,” Olsen said.
So far this season, Olsen has competed on domestic tracks. During the first Super League matches, the temperature dropped 30 degrees below zero. It turns out that this was not an obstacle for everyone.
– I live and come from the northern part of Sweden, where winter temperatures of -30 degrees are the norm. So for me it was not a problem. You could even say ordinary conditions for racing. – Olsen stated.
The Swede can’t count on such a temperature in Poland, but he can count on a warm welcome from Sanok fans. Last year it was noticeable that when the Swedes fought with each other on the track, they did it very hard. They also showed that they can be a team. This was the case in the last runs of last year’s final. When the fate of the medal for Olsen was decided, his mechanics were helped by the other Swedish representatives. The result of this cooperation was that Jimmy stood on the lowest step of the podium.
– The Swedish ice speedway team is like a family and we always stick together,” comments the rider.
Jimmy Hörnell will also be visiting Sanok again. He comes from the small town of Örnsköldsvik, where the qualification for the Individual World Championship was held this year. Last year at the track in Sanok, the Swede finished 8th and 13th, respectively, which put him 13th overall. He also rode in 2021 at the Tomaszow Mazowiecki Ice Arena, where he was 10th.
The last of the representatives of the “Three Crowns” – Joakim Söderström, is by far the most experienced Swedish athlete to round out the finalists. The 54-year-old certainly does not lack ambition. Proof of this is the recently held Swedish Individual Championship. There he took 4th place in the final, and if it hadn’t been for a fall and an exclusion in the last run, it’s not clear what the result of the struggle would have been for the experienced Swede. Last year he was unable to start at the IME in Sanok. He was replaced at the last minute by Dennis Andersson. One thing is certain – he has so much ambition and experience in him that he will certainly cope with the finalists of the European Championships as well.

Ticket packages have been prepared for two days of ice speedway on the “Blonie” track, and you can also purchase tickets separately for each day. Prices are the same as last year. Tickets for people with disabilities: The organizers have prepared a pool of free tickets for fans with disabilities. The condition for receiving a free ticket will be to send a copy of a document proving a severe disability. Free admission is due to both the person with a disability and his/her guardian. The number of seats is limited!
