Franz Mayerbüchler, Maximilian Niedermaier jr. and Marc Geyer will represent Germany in Sanok

The German federation (DMSB) has announced the names of the representatives who will compete for the title of the best rider in Europe in ice speedway. Three of them will compete in Sanok: Franz Mayerbüchler, Maximilian Niedermaier jr. and Marc Geyer. The competition in Sanok is already on February 24 and 25. The start of the competition – on both days – at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for sale online.

The most experienced of this group, Franz Mayerbüchler, fought for the title of Individual World Champion at the Inzell track last season. It didn’t go too well for him, and he retained much better memories, at least from Poland. Two years ago in Sanok, he finished 7th at the first final of the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship. In the second installment in Tomaszow Mazowiecki he was 6th, which ultimately, gave him 5th place overall. After two years, in Sanok he will certainly want to improve his result.
– I like the track in Sanok. I remember that 2 years ago it was very well prepared. I also enjoyed the atmosphere at the facility there. I haven’t had much opportunity to train this year, but I will definitely be ready for the competition. There is still some time left. My goals for this season are: to improve my starts, achieve good results and, above all, have fun,” admits Franz Mayerbüchler.

Among the reported riders is Maximilian Niedermaier jr. This less than 24-year-old rider does not yet have much experience in ice speedway, but his name is very well known in this world. His cousin Max Niedermaier recently won the qualifying round for the 2024 Individual World Championship and will compete in the Grand Prix. The ice version of speedway was also practiced by his uncle. It can be said that Maximilian Niedermaier jr. carries ice speedway in his genes.
– I have never been to a competition in Sanok, but I firmly believe that it will be great. For my part, I promise to do my best to ride my best. I won’t set specific goals – I want to score as many points as possible. This year I had several opportunities to go to the track in Sweden. In addition, I watched the competition in Örnsköldsvik, where I was with my cousin. I hope that this experience will pay off,” states Maximilian Niedermaier jr.

Marc Geyer, on the other hand, is well known among Sanok fans. In the previous edition of the Individual European Championships, the German rider placed 11th.
– I have good memories of last year. It was not without funny situations there, such as the one when I crossed the finish line without a motorcycle, because I fell off it on the last turn. I have fond memories of the conditions that prevailed in Sanok, especially since it is difficult to produce ice in a stadium without a roof and keep it in good shape for 2 days. A big advantage of the facility is also the accommodation at the track itself. Last year I came to Poland without any expectations. 11th place was a result I was very satisfied with. I would have liked to be in the top ten, but to achieve that I would have simply had to go a little faster and not fall off the motorcycle twice,” recalled Marc Geyer.
