We got to know the SVEMO nominations. Olsen, Hornell and Soderstrom will ride in Sanok

A Swedish trio has joined the group of riders who will fight in the Individual European Speedway Championships on ice. On February 25 and 26, 2023, Jimmy Olsen, Jimmy Hornell and Joakim Soderstrom will present themselves at the “Błonie” ice track in Sanok.

Jimmy Olsen is by far the strongest competitor of this group. He is a candidate to fight for medals, and he will defend the title of the second vice-champion of Europe. In his case, one thing is certain – the appetite grows into food. This less than 27-year-old competitor took only 10th place in the first round of last year’s finals in Sanok, but the subsequent victory in Tomaszów Mazowiecki allowed him to enjoy the place on the podium in the general classification. He started 2023 very well, getting promoted to the fight for the title of the best ice gladiator in the world. In the qualifiers in Örnsköldsvik he took a high 5th place.

Another competitor from Sweden who will start in the European Individual Championships will be Jimmy Hornell. He comes from the small town of Örnsköldsvik, where qualifications for the Individual World Championships took place this year. Hornell, despite knowing his home track, did not manage to present himself on it, because in this competition he only had a place for a reserve rider.

However, he got a great opportunity to once again present his skills during the IME in Poland. In the struggle for the title of the best player of the Old Continent, he had the opportunity to fight in 2021 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, where he eventually took 10th position.

The last of the representatives of Sweden – Joakim Soderstrom is definitely the most experienced Swedish competitor who completes the group of finalists. The 53-year-old had the opportunity to prove himself during the fourth round of the 2022 Individual World Championships. It took place in the Dutch Heerenveen, where he joined the squad from the position of the fourth qualified reserve. In the end, he scored 5 points, which shows that he can fight even among the best players in the world. One thing is certain, he has so much ambition and experience that he will certainly manage to be among the finalists of the European Championships.
