Three riders will represent Sweden

We got to know the names of the representatives of Sweden, who on March 21st, 2020 will present in the Ice Arena in Tomaszów Mazowiecki during the European Individual Ice Speedway Championship. Niklas Svensson and Martin Haarahiltunen received nominations from the Swedish Motorcycle Federation (SVEMO). In turn, veteran Stefan Svensson, privately father of Niklas, will act as one of the substitutes.

For the Svensson clan, family competition on the track is not something new. Stefan will turn 62 this year and still feel the joy of racing on the ice. He achieved his greatest career success in 1992, winning the bronze medal at the individual world championships. Today he plays the role of a mentor for his son, who is the best example that the love of motorcycles is inherited in the genes.

Niklas Svensson, 30, still considers his father one of his biggest rivals on the track. – I am used to racing with my father, he is a difficult rival and it is never easy for me to compete with him – he admits every time.

Both fight among others in this year’s cycle of Individual World Championships. And it is the father – for now – who ranks higher in the 9th position in the general classification. The son is eleventh, but he missed two events in Togliatti, where he did not compete.

The Swedish trio in Tomaszów Mazowiecki will be completed by less than 30-year-old Martin Haarahiltunen. Also he was among the competitors fighting for this year’s title of Individual World Champion. And so far the Swedes are doing the best, taking the eighth position in the general classification. His greatest successes include winning two titles of Individual Swedish Champion – in 2018 and 2019.
